As you all know, it’s been a cold one this winter! We had single digit temperatures on more than one occasion. From what we can tell so far, the greens covers have done their job in protecting the greens from any winter desiccation. I want to thank everyone for their support and understanding during the times we have the cover on the greens. We are fortunate to have them now as they will reduce the chance of any turf loss.

Also I have fielded many questions about what we are doing on hole number two. We are replacing several sections of a 24 inch drain that was not installed properly during the construction of the golf course. The pipe has cracked and collapsed in multiple locations which has lead to the large sink holes that everyone has noticed down the left side of the hole. This pipe is the main trunk line of the drainage system on holes 2-6 and if not functioning properly the course could develop more severe problems.

Once the above project is complete, we will be back to preparing the course for Spring! Preemergent herbicide will soon be applied to the entire golf course to help prevent those unsightly spring and summer weeds. Tees, fairways, and roughs will also get aerified in preparation of warmer weather. The staff will also complete the process of mowing down all of the tall native grass that surrounds the course to help maintain a stronger denser stand in 2018. These are just a few of the activities that we have going on in order to get the course ready for the growing season.
