All I can say is WOW! That had to be the strangest August that I can remember! Mother Nature definitely threw us a curve ball on that one! Having had very little if any rainfall in the previous 60 days along with miserable triple digit temperatures, the first two weeks of August looked as if there was no end in sight! But low and behold, a cool front paired with some nice rain and the golf course was able to breathe a sigh of relief! A week straight of 80 degree temperatures is unheard of in August, but we are definitely not complaining! The golf course staff seems almost energized and have shifted into high gear ready to get this course ready for the fall and winter months ahead! We have begun applying our fall preemergent herbicide for winter weeds as well as a later season fertilizer application to help give the turf what it needs to make it through the winter months. We do have one more aerification scheduled for September 12th and 13th. This will help boost the health of the greens and enable stronger root development prior to winter.
